58 CONSTRUCTION LAS VEGAS ASSOCIATION PROFILES NAIOP Southern Nevada, the Commercial Real Estate Develop- ment Association, is comprised of more than 350 members serv- ing Southern Nevada. NAIOP is the leading national organization for developers, owners and related professionals in o ce, industrial, retail and mixed-use real estate, with 15,000 members in North America. NAIOP advances responsible com- mercial real estate development and advocates for e ective public policy. e organization works to keep its members and supporters up-to- date and in-the-know on important and current issues on development and how to keep Southern Nevada economically strong. NAIOP Southern Nevada members are committed to their organization by volunteering in committees that make a di erence in the community. e most notable NAIOP committee is government a airs, which is responsible for monitoring state and local govern- ment municipalities through inter- action with municipal department heads, sta and elected o cials. is committee also makes recom- mendations to the NAIOP Board of Directors and its Commercial Real Estate Political Action Committee (CREPAC) regarding NAIOP's posi- tion on proposed policies, laws and ordinances on local and state levels. e Government A airs Committee places special focus on local plan- ning, building, and public works departments to identify issues of concern to the membership. e Education Committee is responsible for hosting educational lunches, or "lunch and learn" work- shops, featuring professionals from di erent sectors of the commercial real estate industry. rough these, members have an intimate op- portunity to ask questions, learn rsthand, and get a deeper under- standing of what's going on in each sector. is committee also provides networking opportunities and mem- bers with a place to connect, which can turn relationships into business. e Community Service Committee continuously strives to help various charities and nonpro ts, such as Street Teens and Toys-for-Tots. e mission is to identify the speci c needs of these organizations so that chapter members can o er assis- tance.
