78 CONSTRUCTION LAS VEGAS ASSOCIATION PROFILES CALV organizes and empowers the local commercial real estate industry. e Commercial Alliance Las Vegas, one of the largest organiza- tions in Southern Nevada for the commercial real estate industry, is devoted to uniting, organizing and empowering the industry, largely through education, information and through shaping public policy. In addition to holding monthly meetings of the CALV Board of Di- rectors, CALV also presents at least two major industry events each year. e rst is an increasingly popu- lar spring mixer for commercial and other real estate professionals, usually held at Cili restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip. e second is the annual Com- mercial Alliance Educational Symposium, which was just held on Sept. 19 at the Gold Coast hotel-ca- sino. Highlighting this year's CALV Symposium, its ninth such annual event, was a luncheon featuring a lively panel discussion by local real estate legends Ed Nigro and John Midby. In addition to educational ses- sions where real estate profession- als can earn continuing education credits to help them maintain their real estate licenses, members of the media and the public are invited to attend the annual symposium luncheon. e theme for the Sept. 19 panel discussion focusing on how the local real estate industry has evolved over the decades was "Las Vegas Real Estate Legends: When Cocktail Napkins Were Contracts." In addition to the luncheon, nationally known commercial real estate speakers and instructors Dr. Mark Dotzour, Todd Kuhlmann, CCIM, and Soozi Jones Walker, CCIM and SIOR, conducted courses during the symposium. Real estate professionals can earn up to six hours of continuing education credits by attending morning and a ernoon classes.
